Because this blog is intended to be an ongoing conversation and exploration of all things related to discipleship and following Jesus and learning together what it means to live with him in this world, your input is greatly valued. It’s really quite simple. Just click on the “leave a comment” line after any post and share a thought, an idea, a passage from Scripture, a simple quote. I titled this blog Summathetes (which means “fellow disciple”) because I know that the journey of a disciple is not something undertaken alone. So . . . join in, be a fellow disciple, and share your thoughts.
The text of Scripture and the words you read here.
In an effort to keep these posts from being cumbersome in length, the Biblical passages referred to are, at times, not cited in their entirety. This is not because the passages themselves are less important than the words posted. It is only because the reader of the posts most likely can readily access the passages and read them for herself or himself. And I encourage everyone to do so. If you would like to access the Scriptures on line consider either www.biblegateway.com (for access to a variety of translations) or www.esv.org (for access to the English Standard Version, a recent and reliable translation).-

I’m interested to see this [the posts about keeping silent before God] explored more. The first thing that came to my mind was when I was a child we were told “don’t run in church” and other similar self-imposed rules of the day. Some how I have very somber memories of my church days as a child…when shouldn’t it be the other way around?
Love reading your blog, Brian. You always challenge me to think and therefore live biblically. Thanks for sharing your journey with us. Love you brother.
Paul, thanks. You are kind. I so want to think and live biblically. It’s the sweetest way . . . and it keeps me close to Jesus!
